How pretty, a flying pat of butter! Purple and yellow are lovely complementary colors.

Interesting color for a butterfly isn’t it Barbara? I can’t say I have ever seen a yellow butterfly before and these two were dancing around the Purple Loosestrife so daintily. They are so small, I came home with about 50 shots of them, 40 which were duds, as they flitted right out of the frame many times. Yes, I have used purple and yellow petunias together in pots and they look cheery.

Beautiful. Purple and yellow are complementary colors which makes these photos so cool.

Thank you Ally! I like those two colors too and have used them in pots or hanging baskets in the past with petunias and it is very pretty. I’ve seen that color combo with pansies too.

I thought they looked striking together too Terri. And that is the first time I’ve ever seen a yellow butterfly. The two of them were flitting in and out of the Purple Loosestrife and it really caught my eye.

the wings of the butterflies are in such sync with the leaf shapes – very cool photo

Thank you Yvette – I came home with tons of photos that were duds as these were small butterflies and they were flitting in and out of the flowers. I am glad I got these two shots!

Yellow butterflies are common here — Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.

I do see those type of butterflies here, but only twice this Summer. I saw one Monarch and one Viceroy … that’s it, even in places where I have gone in the past and they were everywhere.

Great photos, Linda! 😊 There’s a big pond near me that has Purple Loosestrife and Yellow Sulfur Butterflies.

Thank you Tom – I had never seen Yellow Sulfur Butterflies until these and I had to Google to find out what they were. They do look stunning on the Purple Loosestrife.

Don’t you just love all the color this time of the year? We have a lot of dark moths but the butterflies seem less and less every year. Love your pictures Linda!

Thank you Diane! I do like the purple and yellow combo. Butterflies are scarce here too. This was a first for me seeing this one. I saw a Viceroy last week – I have not seen one of those in a long time.

Two beautiful treasures of summer.

The colors complement one another so nicely and that was a first for seeing this pretty butterfly. Butterflies have been scarce around here. This morning I saw my first hummingbird as it whizzed past my head. I thought it was a butterfly at first.

I haven’t seen very many either. Mainly the smaller ones. Glad you got to see a hummingbird.

I was lucky to see the Viceroy and a Monarch and will be using those pictures in an upcoming post. I used to go to Memorial Park a few blocks from where I live as the volunteer garden was full of perennials and full of butterflies. All I’ve seen there this year was an Eight Spotted Moth. I had to Google to figure out what it was. I was excited to see the hummingbird.
