Beautiful! I saw a swallowtail yesterday late afternoon here in AL. The first one I’ve seen this summer anywhere. Now yours! Coincidence? I think not. 🙂

I think not as well. 🙂 I went to Heritage Park today because that is where I got this photo and unbelievably, in the large Botanical Gardens I saw only one Swallowtail and it was sitting on some greenery, very high up … all those flowers, no other butterflies! That was my lucky day to get this butterfly!

Thank you Brian! This is my favorite type of butterfly – such nice markings. I went back to this same venue today, a very hot day, hoping to find more butterflies out and about at the Botanical Gardens with its 100s of flowers and saw only one butterfly and it was hanging onto some greenery.

You know what – I never thought of that as I was thinking they liked the heat. And, then while I was there, the breeze picked up, so I knew my chances were not good at all as they’d go somewhere until the winds died down.

It’s amazing because most flowers have some type of blemish on their petals and often, by this time in the season, an unmarred butterfly is difficult to find too.

I saw and photographed a new-to-me butterfly a few weeks ago and it was missing most of its hindwings. In backyard gardens, they scrape their wings on rosebushes sometimes.

Thank you Wayne! I was excited to see the perfect butterfly and flower on the screen. I went back to the Botanical Gardens today, hoping for more shots like this one and found one of these butterflies perched high up in some greenery. Go figure!

Thanks Yvette! I was caught up in the moment taking the butterfly’s photo, so when I got home and saw both butterfly and coneflower were perfect on the screen, I was really happy. Sometimes these butterflies are such tattered souls from the weather, or from scraping their hindwings on thorny plants.

Thank you Pepper! I sure was lucky to be in the right place and right time and get a perfect butterfly and coneflowers too. Interestingly, today I returned here, hoping to get some more butterfly-and-bloom shots and all I saw was one Swallowtail butterfly embedded in some greenery and that was it.

Yes, a perfect fit Tom. I don’t often find both a perfect butterfly AND a perfect bloom that it’s sitting on. I finally got out this week before it got warm and rainy again and, though I was on the hunt for butterflies I only saw three of them.

Thank you Monica! I was lucky to get both a perfect butterfly and a perfect Coneflower, which doesn’t always happen, especially This Summer when a lot of flowers look weatherbeaten from the heat, wind and sometimes torrential rains.

Thank you again Swadorobert8074. I was lucky to have a perfect butterfly take a very long pause on that Coneflower. Yesterday I got a photo of a Monarch butterfly but I’ll wait until Winter to use that picture when its beauty and the beautiful flowers will have us asking how many days until Summer! 🙂

I can already picture it” the Coneflower standing tall, and the butterfly just hanging out like it owns the place. That’s the kind of photo that makes me stop scrolling…And saving the Monarch for winter is such a beautiful idea 🦋❄️ I will love to see it when you finally post it.

Nature sure is wonderful … well most of the time, for the beauty anyway. The sad events like earthquakes and wildfires not so much. Yes, butterflies are such beautiful creatures. I will wait until the heart of Winter I think … the garden where I went yesterday is very beautiful, all tended by volunteers.

The hard part, earthquakes, wildfires… it’s a lot. Nature gives and takes, and it can feel heavy to hold both at once.

Oh i see. There’s something so peaceful about them just floating there, perfectly still, with dragonflies and maybe a frog or two keeping watch. Haha and the way the light hits the water around them? Magic.

I am having a lovely day … we managed to escape the rain that was predicted so that was nice. We have had some really crummy weather this year.

Escaping the rain when it was predicted all day feels like the universe giving you a little gift.😊 I’ll take that over “crummy weather” any day.
I get the crummy weather thing though, this year has been wild with it. One minute sun, next minute downpour. So having a lovely day in between is even sweeter.
What did you end up doing with the nice weather? Walk, coffee outside, or just enjoying it from the window?

I did go outside, but it was really humid … it was honestly uncomfortably hot and humid when I got up in the morning, but I wanted the steps so I went out.

Thank you Barbara! They are truly one of nature’s most-beautiful creatures. Today I got some photos of a Monarch, so I was happy about that. I think I’ve seen and photographed only one other Monarch this year.
