About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

It was a brrrisk walk this morning for sure.

I already knew today’s trek would not be toasty, despite the sun that was shining brightly.  Early this morning the weatherman declared it was our coldest start this season.  It was only 30 degrees when I left the house to … Continue reading

Brrr and burrs.

Yesterday was a “stay in your jammies” kind of day. I knew we were having crummy weather with no chance for a walk, so I didn’t even set the alarm clock Saturday night, which is very unusual for me.  I … Continue reading

Fall:  For the critters, is it feast or famine?

The squirrels at the Park have become lazy of late, preferring to stay up in their nests peering down at me.  You know, I get a kick out of those little guys, but don’t like them enough to climb up … Continue reading

The umbrella is our friend these days.

The weather is wacky here in Southeast Michigan.  We went weeks with only sunshine and not a cloud in the sky, and now it has rained incessantly this past week.  It is prudent to pack an umbrella these days, but … Continue reading

Hi ho, there neighbor! Happy Halloween!

Mother Nature was not doling out treats today, but instead had a few tricks up her sleeve instead. The early morning weather forecast was teasing snowflakes and graupel.  Ugh!  I grappled with the idea of graupel wreaking havoc with … Continue reading

Peaceful interlude at the Park.

I thought it was about time I chose a pumpkin-themed picture to accompany this blog post as Halloween is just around the corner.  It is fitting that I use this picture since my morning walk was all about the … Continue reading

Fall comes a-calling at Council Point Park.

All of a sudden, it is very evident that Fall has arrived at Council Point Park, as many of the trees and bushes are wearing cloaks of ruby red, burnt orange, or glorious gold, and they look like jewels studding … Continue reading

Keep your face to the sunshine …

… and you cannot see a shadow.  ~Helen Keller Well, it seems like forever since we saw Mr. Sun … oh yes, that gorgeous weekend that just passed.  You remember, don’t you?  Temps in the 70s, and people were walking … Continue reading

Autumn meanderings.

I decided to visit Elizabeth Park and do some strolling and leaf peepin’ there today. You couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather for late October, and I certainly was not the only person who decided to enjoy a quiet … Continue reading

Ain’t love just ducky!

There are only ten days left in October, so I decided I’d better visit Heritage Park and catch some of the colors, before wind gusts and/or rain stripped the leaves from the trees, leaving them bare and boring looking. So, … Continue reading
