About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

First, he swept her off her feet …

I saw Mr. and Ms. Broom decorating a homeowner’s garden and knew the pair would be perfect for my Sweetest Day post. Corny as it sounds, can we assume that after Mr. Broom swept Ms. Broom off her feet, they … Continue reading

There was a definite bite in the air this morning.

Brrrrrrr – it sure was cold when I stepped out. It seems like God’s memo to Mother Nature, advising her of Fall’s arrival on September 22nd, thus far was unheeded, until today. Tomorrow may be another story. It certainly felt … Continue reading

‘Tis the season for things that scare, so BEWARE!

This ghoul does not like surprises. I kind of like to ease into my day … know what I mean? I got up this morning, within a respectable amount of time after the alarm went off, ready to take on … Continue reading

Make no bones about it …

… I said I’d reach 600 miles by October 15th and got it done today. Actually, had that rainy spell and furnace tech appointment not kept me grounded a week or so ago, I’d have celebrated even earlier. Now, I … Continue reading

Snug as a bug in a rug.

On those first really chilly days of Fall, there’s nothing like snuggling down under the covers as the furnace kicks on and gradually envelops the room in warmth. The alarm went off, just as the furnace kicked on, so I … Continue reading

Guess what?  Fall is back!

What happened to yesterday’s Summer-like temps?  I walked out of the door this morning and hurried back for more layers.  And, now I hear maybe a frost forecast tonight for the northern ‘burbs! This morning, I decided since it was … Continue reading

A peanut for your thoughts …

Wow – it is the third day in a row for stellar early Fall weather. I took my camera along once again today, even though I took loads of Halloween and harvest décor photos on yesterday’s trek. Probably only … Continue reading

Tuesday Musings.

Remember when we used to acknowledge National CB Radio Day every October 4th ?  It was known as “10-4 Day”.  I never heard anything about 10-4 Day today … perhaps we are too immersed in the upcoming election and endless … Continue reading

Moaning about user manuals and machines behaving badly.

Well, October is here – a month of witches, ghosts, monsters and bats, just to name a few things. Oh, and candy corn too, those sugary little pellets guaranteed to give you a sugar high about five minutes after you … Continue reading

This old house …

It sure looks like I will be putting the walking on hold and hunkering down in the house for a few more days after hearing what Mother Nature has in store for us. Yesterday, my favorite weatherman, Paul Gross, proclaimed … Continue reading
