About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Testing my mettle.

This ongoing heat and humidity has tested my mettle in accomplishing my goal of 500 miles walked by Labor Day, but I vow to keep striding on. I bolted out of the house early, maybe not at the speed of … Continue reading

Half of August is gone already and suddenly September is looming large.

I returned to walking again this morning after a three-day hiatus.  As I headed through the neighborhoods, and then down Emmons Boulevard, I could not believe just how green the lawns have become after the periodic rainfall and those gulley … Continue reading

Connecting the dots.

Many hours are spent on this blog reminiscing about days long gone. When I think back to my youth in Canada, and, how us kids spent our Summer vacation from school, I remember those sunny days well, where each hour … Continue reading

Island Girl.

The tropical-like temps are lingering longer than I’d like, and, with the sun beating down and a “real feel” of 90 degrees as early as 6:00 a.m., Southeast Michigan feels more like an exotic island locale. Yup, that’s a wicked … Continue reading

Oh, those Dog Days of Summer …

The muggies are back. Bigtime. Grrrrrr. Weather wise, it was great the past few days, and, I was sorry to see those cooler temps (if the low 80s could be considered “cool”) have disappeared. “Get set to sweat” again was … Continue reading

Sunday sauntering.

Just as the meteorologists promised, the weather finally ceased being overly hot and humid … in fact, there was a beautiful breeze going when I left the house for the first of two walks. I decided to split up my … Continue reading

Shake and bake.

The sun is getting up later and retiring earlier these days. It makes me feel sad, because calendar-wise, I know we are headed toward Fall and colder weather, even though we are still immersed in this relentless heat wave and … Continue reading

Tuesday Musings.

It’s been awhile since I mused about anything, so, today I’ll dust off and resurrect “Tuesday Musings”. Today, was not just a good day, but a G-G-Great day, because I officially “arrived” and am in the 3G age! So, I’m … Continue reading

Well, it’s a saturated Saturday …

It’s been a long time, since I could make that proclamation, and, I’m betting, given our near drought-like conditions, no one was shouting that children’s chant “rain, rain, go away – come again another day!” First, we had that torrential … Continue reading

It may be hard to beleave but …

… some of the trees are starting to turn color and I’ve seen leaves already littering the ground. A few of the maple trees on my walking route have tinges of red already.  I must admit I did a double-take … Continue reading
