About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Just another steamy and sultry September day …

Whew!! For the second morning in a row, it felt a mite tropical out there, and, there really was no joy in going out for the morning trek, just for the sake of getting it done. When I left the … Continue reading

Labor Day and a labor of love.

How did we get so lucky to have three perfect weather days in a row on a holiday weekend? It is rare, and, I guess it is our compensation for enduring such a hot and steamy Summer.  I wish this … Continue reading

The patience of a saint no longer.

Since early Spring I’ve been teasing you with tidbits about the beautiful barn swallows that inhabit the Ecorse Creek by the footbridge. For months, nearly every day when I’d pass by, they would be dipping and gliding around the dense … Continue reading

Mother Nature gets a gold star for getting her ducks in a row.

The weather folks have been predicting perfect weather all holiday weekend, and they, as well as Mother Nature, didn’t disappoint. I decided to take advantage of the cool weather and trek down to Ecorse to the River’s Edge Marina, as … Continue reading

I’m feeling very heart smart today …

I actually surprised myself by reaching my 500-miles-walked goal a few days early. At the beginning of the year,  I set that milestone marker for myself to hopefully happen on Labor Day. I guess it helped that we had weeks … Continue reading

September has arrived!

Mother Nature was right on cue, as we turned over the calendar page, and she provided us a cool morning to launch into the month of September, the first of the “ber” months … you know, that time of the … Continue reading

There you go acting squirrelly again.

In my daily wanderings down Emmons Boulevard, I don’t encounter too much wildlife; it is quite unlike a walk through the nature nook at Council Point Park. What scant wildlife was on the Boulevard last year, and earlier in the … Continue reading

Still another lemonade-in-the-shade day.

This morning, after stepping out into the murky and sauna-like atmosphere, just for kicks I decided to visit the site of Lincoln Park Days at Youth Center Park. It was already warm and the humidity was off the charts, as … Continue reading

Kids: Your free-as-a-bird days are numbered …

Sadly, it was back to tropical temps again this morning, and, even though I left fairly early, that sticky humidity made me feel like a wet rag, even before I’d walked a half mile. The storm last night left its … Continue reading

The pause that refreshes.

Like a cool drink on a hot day, this morning’s almost-feeling-like-sweater-weather was a welcome respite from this Summer’s heat. The weather folks say it has not been this cool since the 4th of July weekend.  It was extremely quiet as … Continue reading
