About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Boo! Hiss! Mother Nature’s “fowl” weather has clipped my wings.

The Winter weather has already gotten tedious, yet it has only been Winter-like since Sunday. It was that freezing rain that has wreaked havoc on my week and made me Winter weary.  Also, … Continue reading

So long, farewell …

Just like that song from “The Sound of Music” about saying goodbye, I guess it is safe to say that El Nino has gone on vacation and left us with a cold, snowy and icy mess. There is never any … Continue reading

Mallards at the marina …

This morning, unlike the past few days when the sun made a triumphant return, the sky was dark and dreary. Mother Nature kept the rain at bay, so it was good walking weather.  I was unlacing my shoes after a … Continue reading

The sun was MIA again this morning.

It’s been ages since I saw my shadow while I was out walking, and, though Ol’ Sol has dared to peek between the clouds later in the day, it is usually long after I’ve returned from my walk and am … Continue reading

Reprise of the squirrel and sparrows stand-off???

It was so tempting this morning to snuggle down further into the warm and comfy bed instead of responding to the alarm clock like Pavlov’s dog. After all … there are some 364 days left in this year, so perhaps … Continue reading

Goodbye Decembrrrrrrr …

… hello January and a brand-new year! Mother Nature is finally done tweaking the weather forecast and has settled on more seasonable temps. After yesterday’s cold and blustery walk, I decided I needed to tweak my walking wardrobe a bit … Continue reading

Talk the talk and walk the walk.

New Year’s Eve pretty much signals the end of the holiday season, just like those firecrackers I keep hearing out of the corner of my ear tell me that 2015 is drawing to a close. The Christmas songs are now … Continue reading

Dough-re-me (as in me, me, me, me, me) …

The title of this post is simply a twist on the show tune “Do-Re-Mi” which is featured in the “Sound of Music”. On the day after Christmas, you get the dough, and suddenly … it is all about you.  Now, … Continue reading

Wreathed in smiles.

Well, the big holiday has finally arrived. Of course, despite the fact that it is Christmas Day, you cannot help but notice that the landscape doesn’t resemble a vintage print by Currier and Ives, but instead, the grass is lush … Continue reading

Please don’t forget the reason for the season …

… by stopping to pause and take a moment from your busy day.  Of all the Christmas décor I’ve seen during my treks, I’ve admired this beautiful crèche on Emmons Boulevard the most. The whole nativity scene is only a … Continue reading
