About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Please don’t forget the reason for the season …

Is my goal a tough nut to crack?

Well today is the official first day of Winter, though you wouldn’t know it … not that I am complaining mind you. While the tail end of December would usually find a Michigander swiping snowflakes off their nose and creating … Continue reading

Forget figgy pudding; I was craving fish eyes and glue.

Just like this vintage picture above, I’ve been feeling a mite nostalgic these days. Well, there’s nothing wrong with that – after all, that’s what the holidays should do – evoke a lot of nice memories from yesteryear, as well … Continue reading

Real snowmen? Snow way!

This morning was a rude reminder that we are nearing the first day of Winter, and, that despite being an average of 25 degrees above normal the past few weeks, Mother Nature likes to show you she is in charge. … Continue reading

Beaucoup joy in one small boy.

You already know my affinity for my feathered friends – I talk it about it enough in my blog posts. The ducks quackin’ me up as they play in the Creek, the sweet warbling on a sunny Summer day, or … Continue reading

A drizzle, a pinch, a dash, a sprinkle and …

… a shake. So, how’s that holiday baking coming along? It sure is hard to spend the weekend inside baking, when the weather outside is so enjoyable, isn’t it? The alarm rang – oh, such a shrill noise in the … Continue reading

Reindeer games.

When I left on my walk this morning, it felt and looked just like a Spring day. The sky was a beautiful blue and the grass was just as green and lush as it is in April.  Up in the … Continue reading

Jack Frost waved his magic wand once again.

For the third day in a row, we’ve had freezing fog and Jack Frost wasn’t just nipping at your nose, but leaving a trail of icy crystals on the grass, sidewalks and streets. I suited up anyway, figuring I’d test … Continue reading

Away from the madd(en)ing crowd …

Image and copyright by Rodney Campbell: https://www.flickr.com/photos/acrylicartist/7978069820 The maddening crowd this time of year is not always defined by the shoppers at the mall.  Today, it was a cluster of mallards that gathered mid-morning in the Ecorse Creek at Council … Continue reading
