About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

The gales of November came early.

After enjoying exceptional weather for most of the month of September, I’ve not been impressed too much with October thus far. Today it was dark and gloomy and the wind was gusting over 20 mph when I left for my … Continue reading

Something to crow about …

East side, west side, all around the town …whether I’ve been pounding the pavement in the neighborhood, or pacing the perimeter path at Council Point Park, as of today I’ve racked up 500 walking miles in 2015. I’m ecstatic since … Continue reading

Are we all moonstruck?

Now that the papal visit to the U.S. is drawing to a close, the nation can now turn its attention to tonight’s colossal moon and the lunar eclipse. This is big stuff, since you don’t need a fancy-schmancy high-power telescope … Continue reading

Whoa! Was that crisis averted or merely managed?

On Saturday morning that sun refused to rise and shine for the longest time. But … I had no room to talk, because neither did I. The alarm rang and I must’ve been dreaming as I couldn’t find the clock … Continue reading

Up close and personal …

Mother Nature kicked that humidity up a notch or two today because the fog took its good ol’ time getting out of town. It lingered over the spacious fields at Council Point Park long after I arrived. In fact, when … Continue reading

I wanted to say “top of the mornin’ to you Autumn” …

Today we welcomed Autumn. But, instead of our grumpy declaration that “parting is such sweet sorrow” which is usually muttered as we watch Summer slowly slip away, it sure is easy to embrace the new season given our simply spectacular … Continue reading

Pumpkin patch patriarch.

I noticed that over the weekend many homeowners in the ‘hood hauled out their harvest and Halloween décor to give a touch of Fall flair to their front yards, even though the official event is still two days away. Scarecrows … Continue reading

Morning has broken …

Sunup arrived. Soon thereafter, the first rays of the day began peeking through the blinds, beckoning me to come out and play, er … walk. I grabbed my gear and rolled out the door just as soon as I could. … Continue reading

Thirteen geese a’ honkin’.

Slowly the temps are creeping back up again and this morning was not so chilly as in recent days. I got in a five-mile walk. I was enjoying myself so much that I was tempted to saunter past the driveway … Continue reading

Because they are not only grandparents … they are “grand” as well.

It was another downright cold September morn, and I tweaked the heat to nudge it up a little higher to take the chill out of the house. That was for my canary Buddy, even though he was bundled up nicely … Continue reading
