About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each and every post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things I see on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, and so my blog is peppered with folks I meet, or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post that day. I respect and appreciate nature and my interaction with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. My career has been in the legal field and I have been a legal secretary for four decades, primarily working in downtown Detroit, and now working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in print journalism in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met and shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing once again in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy – hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

What a lovely face! At least she stayed long enough to get her picture taken.

Yes – she was so pretty and those ears flared out while she stared at me! I feel so lucky to see her and have her stay motionless for so long. Zazzy, in hoping for another encounter, I’ve been back twice since that day thinking I might find her with a fawn or two.

Oh I was Wayne!! She was staring at me so intently, only moving her position once, then staring at me again. I wish she had not been behind those branches because when I zoomed in, it made her face blur a bit. But yes, that doe encounter, was another highlight of that day at Lake Erie Metropark. I’ve been back twice looking/hoping to find her with a fawn(s).

      • A shame you do not know your camera well enough Linda. You could of done what I always do and that is use the centre focusing point only! Shoot like a sniper! All the other focusing points are detecting those branches and throwing your focus off.

I will get to know the camera better when retired and have time to play around with taking pictures both ways – I would do pictures on automatic and also setting the camera. But if I saw something amazing, I would revert to automatic until I felt comfortable. It would have been better if she was not embedded in the bare branches.

Thanks Andy – yes I was pleased and I was struck how intently she was gazing at me. I always marvel at your roe deer and how they stare at you while you’re photographing them and I’ve often commented on that fact.

These pictures are amazing!!!! I see a lot of deer around here, but I’ve never seen a pregnant one so close up. Nice job!

Thank you Ruth! I was so excited to see her this close-up. She was pretty big and you could notice it in one of the pictures. I’ve been back twice to see if I see her with a fawn(s).

  9. What a great capture, Linda. So pleased the deer didn’t make a run for it. She obviously liked having her picture taken.

Thank you Hugh. I always look for deer at this park and she held that pose for the longest time. I think you are right – she enjoyed the adoration and camera clicks. I don’t know which one of us was more infatuated with the other.

Once again, amazing nature photos, Linda. We were seeing deer in my son’s yard in Oregon every morning. Love watching them!

Thanks Laurie – I’ve been back twice to this park hoping to see this doe with her fawn(s). She was really patient while intensely checking me out. I would love seeing deer in the yard. That would make my day too. My friend Carol’s backyard is near a forested area and she has deer grazing in the yard, even laying down in a group under the tree sometimes. It’s nice to see, but they tip the birdfeeders sideways to eat the seed (who knew deer ate birdseed) and drink out of the birdbaths and munch on hostas, so she is often running out to shoo them away.

This is a lovely set of photographs,Linda! I imagine the set nicely placed in a resort cabin in the woods for visitors to enjoy. Beautifully done!

Must be exciting to have been able to be so close to get such great photo shots.

Thank you TD – I was really very lucky to get these photos. I am always looking for deer and I saw this one in a wooded area not far from the path. I took some pictures while inching up closer to her and she moved only once, sheltered a little behind the branches then continued starting at me. We were mesmerized with each other and I could see she was pregnant, so yesterday was the third time I have driven to this rural park to look for her, hoping we could connect again and she would have a fawn or two, but didn’t see her. This was a wonderful moment and last year when I saw the fawn up close, that was a wonderful moment as well. The mom left her fawn who was nibbling grass not far away from me, while mom went into the marsh for a little swim and returned later for her fawn – I know I floated home!

  16. I thought I read this, oops. Amazing shots, what a beauty, Linda!! We haven’t see our usual deer in our neighborhood. I’m sure they go into the high country for summer. They’ll be back in fall and through winter.

  17. What a beautiful creature! We don’t have them around where I live so I’m always in awe when I see them while traveling. Great shots!

Thank you! I was lucky to have such a close-up encounter and I think it is those eyes Janis – we watched each other, both mesmerized by the other. I have now been back to this park three more times, hoping to see her again with a fawn (or two), but no such luck.

  18. She was interested in you! Some deer love to watch humans as much as humans love to watch them. Glad you were able to get some photos!!

Very nice! You remind me that last week I was preparing to leave my office (on a quiet Saturday) and saw a Doe and two fawns ambling across the parking lot.

Thank you JP – I was very lucky with this doe. She and I were mesmerized with one another for quite a while. I would love to see a doe and fawns together. I kept returning to this park since that doe was pregnant and I hoped to see her with her fawn(s). You remember how excited I was last year with that Bambi when mom took off and left me standing there with her fawn. That made my day.
