BADGES
Oh deer! What is it about flowers that taste so good to deer? My brother-in-law can’t keep them from eating his rhododendrons. The flowers must seem like dessert to them, because there is so much other greenery they could be eating.

Oh deer is right Barbara! My friend who lives in New York is near a woods and has deer parading through her backyard all the time and they eat her flowers, especially the hostas as well as stripping the berries off the berry bushes. Maybe they are sweeter than their usual greenery? This is part of the smaller bed of Lotuses and in a shadier area, so they weren’t as big, nor blooming, like the larger bed in the sun from Monday’s post. I was happy to see the deer had its mouth open like it was talking to me, something I never noticed when I was taking the picture. 🙂

So beautiful pictures. Excellent photography! Very nice beer picture. Arround beautiful Greenery & nice flowers. I like. Linda!

Thank you rajkkhoja! Glad you liked the photos. The deer sure was making a meal of those Lotuses and the look it gave me as much as dared me to say anything. 🙂

Very nice I lik it’s. What you say anything?

No, it was just across the marsh from me though. It kept eyeing me the whole time – maybe it knew it shouldn’t be there as they are protected plants. Bad enough to be stepping on them, let alone eating them. 🙂

Yes, they procteted.
Thanks, Linda!

Had to laugh. This deer must think he’s been invited to the biggest and best salad bar. Ha Wow – what great photos Linda.

Thanks Peggy! I was hoping this deer would give people a laugh with its antics. This was in the smaller Lotus bed and it’s partially in the shade, so the flowers and leaves weren’t at peak yet … didn’t matter though did it? You’re right … a personal salad bar. 🙂 I didn’t realize the deer had its mouth open until I saw the pics on the screen and that made me laugh too.

Uh oh! I hope the deer didn’t get in trouble for eating the “forbidden flowers”! Who could blame her? Those leaves look so luscious.

I hope not either Laurie … I didn’t tell on her. 🙂 I had to laugh when I saw her open mouth once I had the photos on the screen. It looked like she was mocking me and between mouthfuls of leaves, she’d look up at me like “what are you staring at?” I think she was pregnant – she looked a little heavy around the middle. Those leaves were only half of what they usually grow to – this was in the smaller bed on the other side and it has a shady area, so not quite as tall as the Lotuses in Monday’s post, but they were getting there.

I had a deer that come every night to go into my pond and munch on my water lilies. I didn’t have that many. Eventually I fenced in the pond area because she was doing so much damage, upending pots and destroying flowers. Hope she finds a place like this! Nirvana!

This deer sure was in Nirvana Kate and in between mouthfuls of Lotuses, she’d look up at me with a defiant look. This was in a shady area so a smaller bed of flowers and she was making great headway munching down through them!

Thanks Wayne! It sure was fun to see the photos on the screen and find out that the deer’s mouth was open and it looked like it was speaking to me! It looked up at me every few mouthfuls as if to taunt me. I was at the right place and right time for sure!

Lunch Time ! Cute expression in the first photo, looks like he is laughing,
Deer are always so gentle and kind looking.

Yes, munching down on every Lotus plant in sight! I was surprised and happy to see that cute expression in the first paragraph Susan as I didn’t notice it when I took the shot. I think this deer was pregnant – she looked a little heavy as she waded through the water.

Zazzy, I would love it to be green like that right now. We are looking at another snowstorm this Friday, four to eight inches. Mother Nature has a bee in her bonnet after what HAD been a fairly calm and snow-free Winter. P.S. I have two more sets of photos from last July. Moving slowly along. 🙂

Deer don’t care – they will eat or at least nibble on anything.

Ruth, my high school friend lives in New York and her backyard is right near a wooded area. She gets a parade of deer through the yard all the time, munching on her flowers and berry bushes. This one was eating her way through the Lotus bed. I think it was pregnant – it was pretty heavy around the middle.

They are cute or beautiful but can be a nuisance.

Yes … deadly too Ruth. My boss has a friend and he/wife were driving to their cabin in northern Michigan when a buck got spooked and ran into their SUV, head and antlers going through the front window. They were safe but the SUV was totaled. Are you ready for our next snow event? This is getting really old. The snow and ice are finally gone – what a shame. It was gorgeous today – did five miles yesterday and today. Now with the time change, it will be less miles on weekdays for a while. Stay safe!

Yes we’re ready for another round 🙄. But ready to be done with it. Last fall both my neighbor next door and the one across the street hit deer with their trucks. Thankfully neither were hurt. Dangerous and costly!

I just watched the WXYZ weather video and there’s a long-range forecast for another “Friday snowstorm” next week. That’s a long way away for now, but really? That snow WAS beautiful when I went out to shovel this morning. I was tempted to take pictures, but I have similar pictures here in the blog, however, the snow covered all the burned bushes, the lilac tree and the charred ground from December’s fire, so it helped beautify the yard … that snow was heavy, but amazingly, it is gone from sidewalks and street. That’s unfortunate for your neighbors … I don’t go to rural parks in November and December due to rutting season. I have seen dead deer on the side of the road right outside the entrance/exit to Lake Erie Metropark in the Summer months.

wunderground.com is forecasting another weather event for next Friday as well but it looks like it will be mostly rain turning to snow or a mix overnight. It is odd how it seems to have developed into a pattern. It is helping our drought situation. I just checked the drought map which is updated every Thursday and we have moved from severe drought to moderate drought. It’s looking better for spring planting.
we only got about three inches of snow yesterday not too much to shovel and it was pretty light compared to that last round. Clean-up was not too bad.

I like Wunderground. I think they are more accurate than Accuweather, which I hear on WWJ and follow them online but Wunderground has a satellite close to where I live, so more accurate for me. I just looked and WU says it will be 49 Friday with rain too. That’s good for planting for you and hopefully you get a break this year. We got about four inches of snow this last storm (I go by Wyandotte which got four inches) and it was already there when I went out to shovel Friday morning). It was heavy but not as bad here as before either. I’m ready for Spring!

Thanks Rebecca – here I was thinking I’d only see the flowers and got a very ice surprise instead! She munched her way through a good part of the smaller Lotus bed while I was watching her.

Yes! All my deer friend needed was a little ranch dressing on those Lotus leaves!

Yes, a real “gotcha moment” for me Shelley … well, with the images anyway, because that deer kept on looking up at me, then going right back to eating. I did not know I had a photo of it with its mouth open with no food in it. It looked like it was having a conversation with me! I wish I could have made a conversation bubble from its mouth. I did not see the open mouth ’til the photos were on the screen and I had to LOL!

Yes, indeed! It is fun to see what photos are captured after the moment has passed. It’s like having fun twice! I’m happy that you were smiling both times 😊😁

Thanks Tom! It was pretty funny since the Water Lotuses are protected plants and Park visitors are not allowed to pick the blooms, leaves or take the seed pods. The deer was having a feast though. 🙂 I saw a lot of deer at this park last year and it was a treat every time!

Deer are going to eat whatever and whenever they can! Great shots! We finally put fencing around all our baby trees since the 20-head deer meander through our neighborhood and hop over our fences like nothing is there.

Thank you Terri! I didn’t notice the doe’s mouth was open until I saw the photos on the screen. That deer was really munching those leaves and the funny thing is those Lotuses are considered protected plants and humans can’t pick the blooms or leaves, nor take the seed pods. But here was the deer ravaging them. I don’t blame you for fencing in those baby trees. The poor trees have taken a beating with all your snow – you sure don’t want deer marching through and trampling them as well.

Yum… a floating salad bar! Even though the plants are “protected” (quotes because they don’t seem to be all that protected 🙂 ), it’s hard to blame the deer for taking advantage of the situation. Fun post!

Glad you liked the post Janis. Well, people aren’t supposed to pick the blooms, or take the leaves or seed pods, but Ms. Doe here decided she was privileged and it would make a nice salad!

I’m not surprised the deer are eating all that lush greenery, Linda. It looks perfect salad material and would make a great addition to a big salad bowl.

Wow what was the chance you were there for those great shots Linda! Maybe the park offered him free food to keep the waterway clear.

Yes, it was really lucky wasn’t it Diane? And I hurried up and took a bunch of shots from a distance across the marsh, then walked closer and it was having a grand old time and just looked at me like “what do YOU want?” Then went right on eating again. 🙂
