About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Hello September!

The chill in the air this morning made it feel more like an October day than the first of September.  I’m loving this weather for walking as it gives me a real spring in my step, but I have to … Continue reading

I didn’t allow the fog to become a “mist” opportunity to walk.

On Sunday, when the weatherman gave the forecast for the week, he said the first three days would be “nothing special” as we’d deal with rain on Monday and Tuesday, and most likely Wednesday as well. Of course I groaned … Continue reading

Butterflies are free …

… or maybe not. Admire these delicate creatures all you want, but today you had to bring along a donation to do so, that is, if you were visiting Felty Farms, a haven for butterflies.  The donation was your choice … Continue reading

Meandering with mallards and memories.

We were blessed with still another picture-perfect day here in Southeast Michigan, so my destination was Heritage Park in Taylor.  I have passed that Park’s entrance hundreds of times through the years, when I traveled up Northline Road to Southland … Continue reading

Snuggle bunnies and sweatshirt weather.

I threw off the covers this morning once I heard that pesky alarm go off, then snuggled back under them again for forty more winks.  Yup, that first chilly morning in Fall and you feel the chill in the air … Continue reading

Loosey goosies.

Well, the flock has found its way back home again, but those geese may hightail it out of here and head for a warmer climate after this Fall-like weather that has descended on us. The Canada Geese likewise descended on … Continue reading

You’re the berries!

I was at Meijer earlier this week, and as I passed the produce department, shoppers were milling around the display of  delicious-looking berries that were on sale.  Those strawberries, blueberries and raspberries sure looked delectable, all plump and brimming with … Continue reading

Sunday sunflowers.

With all the anticipation over the upcoming solar eclipse, I figured today was the perfect day to showcase sunflowers. The status of these blooms above, just like my walking mileage, is “gettin’ there”. As to me, I reached mile number … Continue reading

Nooks and crannies.

Well, my boss has been vacationing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula all this week.  I could have told you the weather would’ve been ugly at least a couple of the days, and sure enough it was.  Crummy weather always happens whenever … Continue reading

Last sunrise.

Today my heart is heavy and my cheeks are damp from tears rolling down from my eyes, because I lost a friend and good neighbor that I have had the pleasure of knowing for twenty-five years. If you’ve followed this … Continue reading
