About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Takin’ it to the streets …

With last Wednesday’s snowstorm just a distant memory, I set out on a walk this morning. I needed that walk to get the kinks out.  For the second day in a row, I woke up feeling like a steamroller ran … Continue reading

It’s feeling very February-ish.

(Not that I was complaining about those days, or even weeks, thus far this Winter season, that felt and looked like April or May.) I’m thinking that those six-inch flowers I saw at the corner house on Ferris Avenue must … Continue reading

Tuesday musings.

The sun was up early – such a beautiful day and I was eager to get out for my walk. It didn’t matter how cold it was, because the sun was out and the sidewalks and streets were clear and … Continue reading

Gains and losses …

It’s been a week of gains and losses. Ups and downs.  Highs and lows.  You win some, you lose some. Anymore, it’s not just the stock market that’s up one day and down the next – though the market has … Continue reading

It’s not a day to be totin’ an umbrella …

… unless you are channeling Mary Poppins, because that wicked wind would send you aloft and you’d have a bird’s eye view of the city in the blink of an eye. I knew I could finally hit the road and … Continue reading

We’re still needin’ our mufflers and mittens in “The Mitten”.

Must. Get. Out. To. Walk. Today. Well, this was my mantra that I muttered for the third day in a row as I lay curled up in bed while listening to the early morning news, but … “greasy and slick … Continue reading

You have my heart.

Today is the day that commemorates love, and nothing says “I love you” more than an old-fashioned valentine. Yesterday, I searched in vain for a pair of genuine Victorian Valentine’s Day cards, that my mom’s great uncle Joe sent to … Continue reading

I’m just a bleeding heart.

Very, very reluctantly, I tore myself from the warm bed and got up early to begin gathering the piles of income tax paperwork. My rather haphazard way of tucking important receipts or documents away the past few years, has left … Continue reading

It’s Harumph Day.

I decided that today should not be labelled Hump Day, but Harumph Day. My choice of this moniker for Wednesday is to express my disdain now that it appears the “real Winter” is finally settling in. We knew it was … Continue reading

A cacophony of coughs, …

… sneezes and handkerchief honking were the sounds that greeted me as the automatic doors to Meijer flew open this morning. Right away I asked myself if I really wanted to enter this hot bed of germs.  I grabbed a … Continue reading
