About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Polar woes, and does Santa really have a plum job?

I am trying not to bemoan this despicable weather … so, I’ll just say that a year ago we were enjoying temps that were 25 degrees above normal. Walking was a joy and happening every day. Just sayin’. I’m sure … Continue reading

I’m giving Ol’ Man Winter the cold shoulder – how about you?

Once again, Ol’ Man Winter showed up early and uninvited, leaving behind his calling card …  just a few more inches of snow to pile onto the existing mess we dealt with earlier in the week. Then, to rub salt … Continue reading

So, what does your guardian angel look like?

I’ve never been a big fan of angel décor at the holidays, or otherwise. But, I may just have to re-think my affinity for angels now, because I think that someone might have been looking out for me – perhaps … Continue reading

Finally, the holly is lookin’ jolly again.

Earlier today I pulled the car out of the garage to take it for a wee spin on a mid-December morning that felt more like mid-February. I warmed up the car, then remembered that wonderful heated seat gizmo (ahhh – … Continue reading

Tuesday musings.

Wintry weather has certainly settled in, much to my chagrin. If only the snow had stayed at bay, I’d have bundled up and headed out to enjoy a pair of extra-long walks, since my boss was out of the office … Continue reading

Let it Snow, Let it Snow … (now someone turn it off please).

Ahh, that first big snow event of the Winter season. But, wait … Winter doesn’t happen for another ten days! For sure, all this snow might put the kibosh on walking for the short-term. Anyone who follows this blog knows … Continue reading

Hounds sporting holiday sweaters and some hints and hacks.

What a difference a day makes … peering out the window this afternoon, it looked beautiful with the sun out and cars whizzing by at the regular speed – none of the treacherous driving that was evident yesterday. Surprisingly, no … Continue reading

All the leaves are brown and the skies are gray …

I was thinking about this very song, “California Dreamin’” by the Mamas and the Papas, as I walked down the driveway to begin my walk this morning. It was chilly and windy – the sky looked dark and somber.  Inside … Continue reading

Forty feathered friends at the footbridge.

Whether we like it or not, snow is supposed to descend on us … soon our neck of the woods will look like a snow globe. As you know, I’m no fan of snow, not even to set a festive … Continue reading

A goal has been met; goodbye to November.

December has arrived, and, it was as if Mother Nature put her hands on her hips and said “enough of this beautiful weather … it’s time to match the calendar page to the weather forecast and roll out the cold … Continue reading
