About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Family, friends and sweet memories.

Only one more “sleep” until Santa arrives here in North America.  For some of my blogging pals, Santa has visited and left, like for John in Sweden, where Christmas is celebrated on December 24th. Do you believe? Christmas was so much … Continue reading

Season’s Eatings.

I originally planned for this post to appear on December 25th.  I wanted to use Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s quote about the joy of Christmas bells, which goes like this: I heard the bells on Christmas day Their old familiar carols … Continue reading

It takes a village …

Over the years I’ve shared several stories about my work life … like my first real job, slinging hash at Carters Hamburgers, the small diner where I worked throughout my college years.  How I loved that place and everyone associated … Continue reading

A little Friday frivolity.

TGIF!  For many of us, since Christmas falls on a Tuesday this year, we will enjoy a four-day holiday.  Sadly, our time off will pass far too quickly! Over the past few weeks, I’ve collected some photos and stories and … Continue reading

We all need a little wiggle room sometimes.

It sure was freezing cold and frosty this morning.  Down at Council Point Park, the Ecorse Creek was lightly frozen over and I watched a few geese navigating around that thin veil of ice.  They floated along in a row, … Continue reading

Here, there and everywhere …

I would be remiss, with barely a week to go ‘til Christmas, if I did not share some of my favorite holiday décor that I see around town on my daily treks.  This year I’ve not yet strayed down to … Continue reading
